Radical Lesson #1
DIY Mobile Instructions
Materials to gather:
-
Printed pattern from exhibition
-
String
-
Scissors
-
Glue or clear tape
-
Optional: Beads, tassels, or any other objects to add weight
-
Optional: Markers, crayons, or anything to draw or paint on the print
Step 1: Personalize
Personalize your pattern. Draw on the print with any medium. If working with children, make it fun and collaborative!
Step 2: Cut
Cut out each of the shapes following the curved lines. You will have four half moons.
Step 3: Roll
Create cones by rolling each shape and affixing the ends together with glue or tape. Repeat for all cut out shapes.
Step 4: String
Cut your string to at least 24 inches or longer.
Starting from the bottom up, attach any beads or tassels (or whatever decorative items you want) at the bottom of your paper mobile to one end of your string. Adding heavier objects on the end helps to add weight to the mobile. Secure with knots above and below to hold them in place.
Step 5: Assemble
Once you are happy with the end of your string, tie a knot about two inches away from the beads and weave the smallest shaped cone onto the string. After the first paper cone is in place, allow anywhere from another inch and 1/2 to 4 inches before tying the second knot and weaving in the second cone. Keep doing this until you have all four cones in place.
Step 6: Finishing
Leave some space at the top of your last cone before tying a loop or a knot to hang your mobile. All that is left to do is attach your mobile to the ceiling and share all the radical lessons with the world!
