01 - on bodies

On bodies gathers queer and trans parents’ reflections on gender, identity, fertility, pregnancy, medical care, transition, dysphoria, pleasure, and physical change. Their experiences complicate familiar assumptions about which bodies give birth and what pregnancy is supposed to look or feel like.

Rather than treating the body as fixed or self-evident, On bodies considers embodiment as something continually interpreted and renegotiated: through language, medicine, technology, relationships, and our encounters with ourselves.

The collection asks what becomes possible when bodies are allowed to be contradictory, changing, and defined by the people who inhabit them.
